Different Engineering Courses in the Philippines

Here are the different Engineering Courses in the Philippines if you are planning to take an engineering course (and suffer). This is a list of common engineering degrees in no particular order.

BS Industrial Engineering – BSIE

Industrial engineering is the branch of engineering that involves figuring out how to make or do things better. Additionally, Industrial engineers are concerned with reducing production costs, increasing efficiency, improving the quality of products and services, ensuring worker health and safety, protecting the environment, and complying with government regulations.

They “work to eliminate waste of time, money, materials, energy and other commodities,” according to the Institute of Industrial Engineers. For example, industrial engineers may work to streamline an operating room, shorten a roller-coaster line, make assembly lines safer and more efficient, and speed up the delivery of goods.

BS Mechanical Engineering – BSME

Mechanical engineering, the branch of engineering concerned with the design, manufacture, installation, and operation of engines and machines and with manufacturing processes. It is particularly concerned with forces and motion.

In addition, Mechanical engineering is all about movement. It is the application of science and technology to solve real-world problems, through the manipulation of moving parts.

Mechanical engineers design power-producing machines, such as electric generators, internal combustion engines, and steam and gas turbines, as well as power-using machines, such as refrigeration and air-conditioning systems.

BS Computer Engineering – BSCpE

Computer engineering is the branch of engineering that integrates electronic engineering with computer sciences. Computer engineers design and develop computer systems and other technological devices.

CPEs major in computer hardware perform research, design, develop and test computer systems and components such as processors, circuit boards, memory devices, networks, and routers. Another important aspect of computer engineering is software development.

CPEs are concerned with analyzing and solving computer-oriented problems. CPEs understand both the hardware and the software of computers. This enables them to choose the solution that is best, not just the one they know. Sometimes the answer to making a program more efficient is a change in the computer itself. Sometimes it’s cheaper and faster to change the software than the hardware. The knowledge of both the “body” and the “mind” of a computer helps computer engineers work at the microscopic level and on a large, system-wide scale.

BS Electronics and Communications Engineering – BSECE

If you’re interested in repairing or developing electronic communication systems, a degree in electronic communications engineering may be right for you.

Electronics and Communications Engineering focuses on the study of design and development of Electronic equipment such as semiconductors and transmitters to be used in distant communications.

It deals with the electronic devices, circuits, communication equipment like transmitter, receiver, integrated circuits (IC). It also deals with basic electronics, analog and digital transmission & reception of data, voice and video (Example AM, FM, DTH), microprocessors, satellite communication, microwave engineering, antennae and wave progression.

BS Electrical Engineering – BSEE

Electrical engineering is the branch of engineering that deals with the technology of electricity. Electrical engineers work on a wide range of components, devices and systems, from tiny microchips to huge power station generators.

Critical skills needed in electrical engineering include an in-depth understanding of electrical and electronic theory, mathematics and materials. This knowledge allows engineers to design circuits to perform specific functions and meet requirements for safety, reliability and energy efficiency, and to predict how they will behave, before a hardware design is implemented.

Electrical engineering is the design, building, and maintenance of electrical control systems, machinery, and equipment. While electrical engineers mainly focus on large-scale production and distribution of electrical power, electronics engineers are concerned with smaller electronic circuits

BS Civil Engineering – BSCE

Civil engineering is everything you see that’s been built around us.

Civil engineering is the design and construction of public works, such as dams, bridges, and other large infrastructure projects. It is one of the oldest branches of engineering, dating back to when people first started living in permanent settlements and began shaping their environments to suit their needs.

They do a lot more than design buildings and bridges. Also, they work in the aerospace industry, designing jetliners and space stations. They can be found in the automotive industry, calculating the load-carrying capacity of a chassis and improving the crash resistance of bumpers and doors.

A civil engineer is someone who applies scientific knowledge to improve infrastructure and common utilities that meet basic human needs.

BS Chemical Engineering – BSChE

Chemical engineering is the branch of engineering that deals with chemical production and the manufacture of products through chemical processes. Also, this includes designing equipment, systems, and processes for refining raw materials and for mixing, compounding, and processing chemicals to make valuable products.

Moreover, chemical engineers conceive and design processes to produce, transform, and transport materials — beginning with experimentation in the laboratory followed by the implementation of the technology in full-scale production.

Furthermore, chemical engineers apply the principles of chemistry, biology, physics and math to solve problems that involve the production or use of chemicals, fuel, drugs, food and many other products.

BS Agricultural and BioSystems Engineering

Agricultural Engineering is the branch of engineering that deals with the design of farm machinery, the location and planning of farm structures, farm drainage, soil management and erosion control, water supply and irrigation, rural electrification, and the processing of farm products.

They apply engineering science and designs to the processes and systems involved in the sustainable production and post-production of safe food, feed, fiber, timber, and bio-energy and management of environment and natural resources.

BS Geodetic Engineering

Geodetic Engineering is an act of gathering physical data on the surface of the earth with the use of precision instruments. In addition, it is the scientific and methodical processing of these data and presenting them on graphs, plans, maps, charts or documents.

It teaches students the scientific and methodological processing and management of gathered data. Then, data is now used for the production of spatial information systems, maps, plans, charts, and other relevant documents.

Furthermore, it aims to make students knowledgeable of geographical information systems and positioning systems. In order to develop their skills in astronomical observations.

Wrapping Up

So, we are able to identify the different engineering courses in the Philippines. It is your choice which path to take. I think that all engineering disciplines are the same in Mathematics subjects, but differs in Major subjects.

If you are asking me which engineering courses in the Philippines should I recommend, my answer would be depending on your skills, capabilities and availability of engineering courses near you.

These engineering courses in the Philippines is just a guide for you, which you think suits you best. I am biased if I tell you to take Computer Engineering since I am a Computer Engineer. It is you and only you to decide.
